Yakone had dozed off, lying on his side with his eyes closed and head resting on the ground. His breathing is shallow and rapid, hardly detectable if not for the sounds of effort he occasionally releases as he inhales. He wasn’t aware of his surroundings at the moment, much too tired and just . . drained.

Beech slowed and peeked around a slight bend in the trail to see Yakone. Something told her she could do nothing for him now. Slowly she melted into a bush to watch. She was oddly fascinated. This was the first death she had witnessed where she hadn't been more worried about surviving or watching a hunt. Besides, she reasoned to the part of her which insisted she go back and watch camp, someone had to alert Anik, although she thought a worried observer was the last thing the old wolf would want right now. If he did, he probably would have stayed in camp.

An ear twitches at the sound of rustling bushes, but Yakone doesn’t lift his head. His already delayed breathing soon slows, and he tries to stand again. He had to get back to Suluk; he had to get home! He doesn’t make it far, however, taking only two steps before tumbling back to the ground due to fatigue.
Slowly, his breathing comes to a stop. The wolf’s body stills, eyes opened and turned in the direction he was headed, as if he’d been about to make a run for it.
His thin frame shows no further sign of life, the subtle rise and fall of his chest missing, and even the anxious twitching of his ears ceased.

Beech crept out of her place. She gave an involuntary shudder and pushed his eyes closed. She never liked the eyes of the dead. She glanced around once before haring down the path to the camp, skidding to a stop just inside the entrance with a spray of pebbles.

Angling an ear to outside the den, she moves her head from underneath Anik's, stands up and pads outside. Looking around, she first notices Beech and heads over to her. "Beech, what's wrong?" She asked and also noticed that Yakone hadn't returned and her concern grew.

Beech yanked her head back towards the trail and took a few steps before looking back to see if anyone was following. She took a moment to check the positions that she had memorized, and was satisfied to see they had barely changed.

Recognizing the movements as a "follow me", Reika began to follow. Something was wrong and she didn't like it. Taking a quick glance back at Anik than than back forward and continued following Beech not sure if it was a good thing for Anik to come along now.

Beech easily navigated back to where Yakone's corpse lay and nodded to him. She stepped back about a foot to give the other wolf, and anyone else who had followed, space.

Reika stared at Yakon's corpse, eyes wide with shock and on the inside she tried to deny that this wasn't real. She walked over to the older wolf, noticing that he was thankfully not attacked and started to gently lick his head. "I wish you nothing but comfort and strength. Rest in peace, Yakone." she murmurs trying not to cry but he couldn't help the small stream falling from her forest green eyes. The silvery-white female turned away and hung her head, ears flat.

Umi huffed rather loudly as she was still without the peace sleep would bring to her. Her audits suddenly perk and twich as the golden dame catches wind of a pebbles being disturbed from their place on the ground and voice speaking, it sounded like Reika. With that Umi opened her ice blue hues to stand and peer out of her den in enough time to see Reika running off with Beech. ‘How odd at such an hour..’ Umi thought. This was enough to get her moving as sleep wasn’t coming any time soon. The golden dame’s eerie blue optics looked around as she followed the two dame’s not too far behind.

Vix was walking back to camp when she caught the scent of Rei and Beech. She decided to allow them since they should be at the den at this time. Vix soon saw them standing next to a body. She caught the stale scent of Yakone as she stood a little aways from them.

Reika caught the scent of both Vix and Umi but didn't make any indication that she knew they were there but angled an ear to them slightly. Giving Yakon's body one last look, she then heads back to camp, shoulders slumped and eyes cast down in a mournful gaze. She would have to tell Anik but she didn't want to.

Umi had approached the pair of Reika and Beech rather fast, as she didn’t expect them to have stopped so soon. The fresh stench of death made the golden dame’s hackles raise. Umi gasped as her ice blue hues looked upon a still Yakone, she immediately felt sad as her audits flopped and tassel hung low; a small whine emitted from her maw as Umi downcast her head as well. She knew this was coming with the sire’s old age, but not this soon. Yakone was like a father to everyone, and this hit too close to home for Umi; reminding her of her own father and he abrupt demise.
The golden dame shook her lean frame violently as she was on the verge of tears. Umi darted back towards the densite without a word.

Once back at the densite, Reika mutely heads over to where she had left Anik with her pups who were sleep. "Anik," She called to the darker male, her voice breaking a little. "There's something you need to know." She sat down in front of the entrance, whining softly.

Anik had moved to curl around Reika’s pups in her absence, both to help himself relax and keep them warm. At the sound of approaching pawsteps his head had lifted, lip curled. When he realizes it’s her, however, he stands and carefully steps over her young, padding closer. His ears are shoved forward alertly, a panicked look in his eyes when he notices the break in her voice. “Is something wrong?”

"It's its Yakone," Reika answered stuttering a little. She was trying not to cry again, she was doing alright but she couldn't help the couple droplets falling from her forest green eyes. "He passed away." Death wasn't one of the things she would like to experience in her life but she knew it was something that was going to happen anyways regardless.
